  • Fact 1: The original Star Trek series ran from 1966 to 1969. It was created by Gene Roddenberry, a former L.A.P.D. officer.
  • Fact 2: Communicators are fictional devices used for voice communication in the fictional universe of Star Trek. In at least one instance, they also served as an emergency-signaling device/beacon. They allow direct contact between individuals or via a ship's communication system.
  • Fact 3: Only 11 communicators were made for the original series and of the 1 was destroyed by an android in a scene.
  • Fact 4: In Star Trek: The Original Series, communicators functioned as a plot device, stranding characters in challenging situations when they malfunctioned, were lost or stolen, or went out of range.
